Guide to Emergent (Baby) Annual Plants

Here come the wildflowers! You can make informed identification of emergent wildflowers using the excellent guide provided by Tom Chester.  Here is a link to Tom's compilation of the morphology of baby annuals. It is outstanding and worth using (as is the entire site).

Additional Work Session in the Herbarium Available

Some intrepid members of the Botany Society perform serious botany work every Thursday afternoon in the herbarium. Additional volunteers have shown an interest in working in the lab, but space is limited on that day.

To accommodate interested members, an additional work session has been scheduled every Tuesday from 1-4 PM starting January 24th. A seasoned volunteer will provide training for newcomers. There is space for up to 5 volunteers per session.

Please confirm that you are interested. Contact Larry Hendrickson to send an email indicting your interest.

Weekly Volunteer Weeding Effort

In an effort to keep up with the control of Egyptian Knapweed (Volutaria tubuliflora) and Sahara mustard (Brassica tournefortii), the natural resource staff here at ABDSP will be hosting a Weekly Volunteer Weeding Effort every Thursday, starting January 26th, and continuing through March 30th. We will be meeting at the end of DiGiorgio Rd, at 8:30am every Thursday, rain or shine!

All current ABDSP volunteers are encouraged to attend, and bring friends and family! We will have a one-day volunteer signup sheet for those who are not current volunteers. We will also provide bags, tools, and extra water.

Please be prepared to be out in the field for 3-4 hours. Some suggested items: Good hiking shoes, gloves, sun hat, sunscreen, water, snacks, and a smile.
